YOGA BASICS: AN INTRO SERIES FOR TOTAL BEGINNERS

Yoga Basics: A Four-Week Intro Series

Curious about yoga but don't know where to start?  This is a four week class series with a focus on the basics. Designed for those who are brand new (or rusty) to practice.  You'll build confidence and deepen your experience on your mat.


Experienced practitioners with a "beginners mind" are also welcome to join us!


Over four weeks, we'll explore the basics of yoga in a small group setting.  You will learn the foundations of yoga posture (asana) with plenty of support, modifications and guidance. We will also practice simple breath techniques (pranayama) to help your body feel more comfortable in both stillness and with movement.  


By inviting concentration and mindfulness into our practice, yoga helps us to learn to care for ourselves and others. 


Classes will take place:


  • September 27
  • October 5
  • October 18
  • October 25


As part of your course registration, you will also receive one Single Class pass to use for any of our regular group classes.

What to Expect / Course Overview:

Week 1: Introduction to Yoga

September 27, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.


  • What is yoga, anyway? This first week, we'll have a brief discussion before we even roll out our mats.  This will provide just a nano glimpse into the vast topic of yoga and its history in the East + West
  • After that, we'll practice some simple standing postures, connecting breath to movement
  • You will learn how to safely use the props provided



Week 2: Asana Basics

October 5, 12:00 p.m., 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.


  • This is what we most commonly associate with a yoga practice; asana simply means posture.
  • In this movement-focused class, you will learn some more of the basic shapes in yoga  
  • Continue to practice breath awareness as you learn to both move and listen to your body'



Week 3: CHOOSE YOUR CLASS

Studio is closed on October 11, Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend


This week, you may choose to take any of our regularly scheduled classes to practice what you have learned. Or take this week off and choose a class to take later. One Single Class Pass is included with your series registration.



Week 4: Breath + Balance

October 18, 1., 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.


  • This week we'll continue building our asana practice:
  • Test your balance and concentration with a series of balancing poses.  We grow even when we feel unsteady...
  • We will also practice using breath to become more comfortable in stillness



Week 5: Integration

October 25, 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.


  • This week we'll put it all together with a gentle flow using learned asana
  • Class will finish with a guided mediation
  • Afterwards, we'll be available for any questions you may have

Cost

These classes will all be offered in a small-group setting (max 6 participants). 


Registration Cost (Series): $108.00 + HST

This rate includes:

  • Four scheduled small-group classes, Saturdays at 12:00 p.m.
  • One Single Class Pass, valid for any of our regular weekly classes


Early Bird Rate:  Register before September 13 and receive $10.00 off.



Drop In Rate: $30.00 / class
